1 lb. unsalted butter (4sticks)at room temperature
1 lb. sugar (2-1/2 c.)
1 lb. flour, sifted twice (4 cups)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 lb. eggs (12 eggs)
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour a 12 cup bundt pan. Place butter in a large mixing bowl. Beat on high speed until light and fluffy; add sugar and beat another 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition and scraping down sides as needed; add vanilla and almond. Sift flour ,soda and salt; add slowly, beating just until all the flour is incorporated. NO LONGER. Pour batter into pan;shake to even out batter. bake 1-1/4 hours until the cake is golden brown or a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pan for 20 minutes,remove from pan and cool completely.
Make a glaze of 1/4c. honey, 1T lemon juice and 1/4 c. powdered sugar. Mix well and pour over cake.

Serve with fresh berries.

When I was first married and went to Birmingham for a visit, Pap would call and say "Bring that man of yours up here for cake and coffee." The last time was Feb. of 1970. He was 91 and needed help cracking the eggs because his rheumatism had crippled his hands. He passed away the next year, but everytime I make this delicious cake, I feel like he is here with us.
