4 eggs, divided
3-4 T warm water (when small eggs use 3)
3/4 c sugar
1/2 t vanilla extract
1 c (full) flour
1/2 t baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together egg yolks and water, add 2/3 c sugar and vanilla extract while beating. Beat until creamy and light yellow 3-4 minutes. Put aside. Beat egg whites separately till stiff and can be cut by knife. While beating add remainder of sugar. Put egg white into egg yolk mixture. Sift flour and baking powder in bowl. Sift this over egg yolk mixture. Mix very slowly. Grease and flour cookie sheet. Line cookie sheet w/ wax paper (including the sides). Pour onto cookie sheet, spread evenly. Bake in oven 350 10-15 minutes. In the meantime, sprinkle sugar on non-fuzzy dish towel or wax paper. When dough is done flip pan on this cloth. With wet sponge wipe wax paper quickly to remove. Roll long way with towel. Cool 2 hours. Unroll slowly. Cover w/ strawberry jam. Roll again w/ out towel. Seam down.

Chocolate frosting: Melt 3 oz (3 sq) unsweetened chocolate and 3 T butter or margarine. Mix 4 c confectioner's sugar, 1/8 t. salt, 7 T milk, and 1 t vanilla extract. Add chocolate mixture and blend well. Let stand, stirring occasional, until of spreading consistency.

Put designs on Yule log w/ fork - Can use grinded pistachio nuts.

For Kuchen: When dough is spread in pan, put in fruit, such as sliced plums, peaches, or cherries. Bake till brown. Cool and sprinkle w/ confectionery sugar.
