1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 square bitter chocolate, melted
2 c. flour
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. cream tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening with sugars, add egg, melted chocolate and vanilla together. Mix the flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt together.

Mix well. Make a ball about the size of a walnut roll in powder sugar and place on cookie sheet. Bake 350 10-15 mins. Let rest a couple of minutes. Roll in powder sugar again.

I got these from a neighbor shortly after we moved to Faribault. I make these as a Christmas cookie but you do not need to wait. They are wonderful.
