1 qt. sweet milk
4 eggs
1 tsp. lemon or vanilla extract
1 tbs. butter
1 c. bread crumbs
1 pinch salt
1 c. white sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Soak bread crumbs in hot milk 20 minutes. Add 4 egg yolks, beaten lightly, with other ingredients; save the whites for meringue. Place in oven 325 deg. F for 45 minutes. Remove from oven, add meringue and brown about 8 minutes.
Serve hot or cold.

Loretta's Mom [Winnie Hamilton] started making this when her 2-yr. old son, Steve, had his operation on his cleft palate in the 1940s. "Mom's bread pudding" became everyone's favorite throughout many, many years.
