1-¾ cups cake flour
1 ½ cups sugar
Pinch of salt
½ cup shortening
2 eggs
½ cup sour milk or buttermilk
(I seldom have either so I use about a tablespoon of vinegar in the measuring cup before I the measure the milk and it works grand)
1-teaspoon soda
1/2-cup Hershey’s cocoa dissolved in ½ cup hot water (I usually have it boiling)
Vanilla (optional)

I use my mixer and this process:
Cream the sugar and shortening until quite fluffy
Add flour alternating with hot chocolate mixture
Add eggs one at a time un beaten,
Add sour milk and soda
This is a very thin batter and can be baked either in layers or a loaf pan at 350.
