1 cup of brown sugar, 1 & 1/2 cups of sugar, 2/3 cup of Crisco shortening, 2 eggs, 2/3 cup of water, 2 cups of applesauce, 3 &1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 tsp. of baking powder, 1 tsp. of salt, 2 tsp. of apple pie spices, 2 tsp. of soda, 2/3 cup of nuts and or 1/2 cup of raisins- optional.

Directions:

Mix and cream together sugar, shortening and eggs. Stir in applesauce and water, then stir in all dry ingredients. After well mixed, fold in nuts and raisins.
Bake at 350 for 40 minutes in well greased bundt pan or 8"x13" pan.
(I would vote for the bundt pan, makes a better presentation.)

I wrote this word for word from one of mom's handwritten recipes. She wrote that this was the "1st cake I ever made (that was good), when I was 18 yrs. old."
