3/4 cup Shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. of cream of tarter
1/2 tsp.salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Place 1st. four ingredients in a large mixing bowl and beat. Add nuts and mix again. Sift rest of ingredients. Divide into two portions. Add 1/2 to first mixture and mix well. Add remaining half and beat thoroughly. Knead dough with hands until smooth.Pack very firmly and shape into two bars.Wrap in waxed paper and chill until firm enough to slice When chilled slice in 1/8 inch slices.Place on greased pan at 400 for 6-8 min.

I hope everything is right. My recipe was so faded I could barely read it. This along with Date Pinwheels was a favorite Christmas cookie of Mom's Also a favorite of my daughter, Melanie.
