Place eggs in a saucepan and fill with hot tap water with 1” above the eggs. Cover and bring to a full boil. Remove from heat to prevent further boiling. Let eggs stand, covered in the hot water for 15 minutes for large eggs, 12 minutes for medium eggs, or 18 minutes for extra large. Immediately run the eggs under cold water until completely cooled.
