2 pinches salt
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. white karo
4 egg whites
4 T. water
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 T. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Using double boiler, bring water to boil.
In the top of the double boiler, mix all ingredients. Continuing to use mixer the entire time, cook for 7-10 minutes (until stiff).
Remove icing from stove.
Add vanilla and continue to mix for 2-3 additional minutes. (Use this icing quickly as it will begin to harden as it cools.)

MaMaw Owens's white cake with white icing recipe has been passed down 4 generations. From my great-grandmother, Mae Owens, to my grandmother, Christine Balliew, to my mother , Delores Sexton and then to me. My mom used to make this cake for our family when I was growing up, and it was always a favorite for all of us. Now, I bake this cake for my family , and we love it!
