2 c. split peas, rinsed
6 c. hot water
1 c. sliced or diced carrots
1 c. sliced celery
1 med. onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 t. dried marjoram
1/2 t. dried basil
1/4 t. ground cumin
1 t. salt
pinch of cayenne pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse peas, then place them in a large kettle with remaining ingredients. Bring to a simmer, then cover loosely and cook until peas are tender, 1-2 hours. Or place all ingredients into a slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours, or until peas are soft and veges. tender.
