1 cup dates, chopped
1 cup hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tablespoon cocoa
1 cup chocolate chips (Jean uses milk chocolate)
1 cup nuts, chopped or ground
powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, hot water a baking soda together and set aside to cool. Mix sugar, shortening, salt and eggs; add date mixture to this. Mix together flour, baking soda and cocoa and add. Pour into a greased and floured 11x14-inch pan. Top with chocolate chips and nuts. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
