1/2 C shortening
2 C sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 C unsweetened applesauce
2 1/2 C sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon, cloves, all spice
1 C chopped raisins
1/2 C chopped nuts
2 tsp soda
1/2 C boiling water

1 C brown sugar
1 cube margarine
1/4 C cream
Boil for 2 minutes. Add powdered sugar to desired consistency

Mix as usual but be sure to add the soda to the boiling water before adding to cake. Bake 45 minutes at 350
