1 cup pecan pieces
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1 cup flaked coconut
1 German chocolate cake mix made according to directions
1/2 cup butter
1 - 8 ounce pkg. cream cheese
1 lb. confectioners sugar

Directions:
Layer in bottom of buttered 9 by 13 pan, pecans, coconut, and chips. Prepare cake mix according to box. Spread batter over pecans, coconut, and chips. Combine butter and cream cheese in saucepan, cook over low heat until smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, add powered sugar, stir until smooth. Drop by spoonfuls over the batter, do not spread. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 - 60 minutes, Cool and serve from pan. Cracking of the cake is common, hence the name, Earthquake Cake. This cake is served from the pan, there is no frosting, and it is great for potlucks because it travels well, and needs no refrigeration.
