3 c. sugar
pinch of salt
2/3 c. Hershey's cocoa
1 1/2 c. milk
3 T. peanut butter, optional
1 stick butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cook sugar, salt, cocoa, and milk over med. heat, stirring constantly until mixture reaches soft ball stage (234 F. on candy thermometer). Remove from heat. Add butter, vanilla and peanut butter, if desired. Stir by hand until thick and begins to lose it's gloss. Pour into buttered dish.

Pat is the widow of John Bernice Crow and the daughter-in-law of the late Fraser and Louella (Hollenshead) Crow. You can test soft ball stage by dropping a bit into cold water and picking it up without it coming apart. Her daughter Susan (Crow) Goode prefers it plain, but John Bernice loved the peanut butter.
