1 C. walnuts, finely chopped
4 1-oz. squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 C. sifted cake flour
2 C. granulated sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp. instant coffee granules
1/2 C butter or margarine,softened
1 C buttermilk
1/4 C water
3 eggs
Walnut fudge frosting*
walnut halves or large pieces for decorating

Fudge Frosting
2 C granulated sugar
1/4 C light corn syrup
1/2 C milk
1/2 C margarine or shortening
2 1oz. squares unsweetened chocolate, cut up
1/4 tsp salt
q tsp Vanilla
1/2 C chopped nuts

Directions:
Cake
Chop walnuts fine; set aside. Melt chocolate. Into a mixer bowl, resift flour with sugar, soda, salt and instant coffee. Add butter,buttermilk, water and chocolate. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs and beat 2 minutes longer. Stir in walnuts. Turn into two greased and floured 9 inch layer cake pans.
Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes or until cake tests done. Let cake stand in pans about 5 minutes turn out on wire racks and cool
Frost between layers,around sides and over the top of cake with walnut frosting. Decorate with additional walnut halves or large pieces.
Frosting
Into a deep saucepan, combine sugar, syrup, milk, margarine, chocolate, and salt. stir together over low heat until chocolate and margarine melt. stirring, bring to full, rolling boil; continue to boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool for 10 minutes. Beat mixture until lukewarm. Stir in vanilla and walnuts; beat smooth. Add a few extra drops of milk if needed for desired spreading consistency.
Microwave
Combine ingredients as above in a 2 qt glass measure. Microwave on full power for 7 minutes, stirring after 2, 5, and minutes. Let mixture boil 1 minute

I cut this out of the Orlando Sentinel March 1984. They had a picture with it. It looked so yummy.You might be able to play around with is with one of the devils food or fudge butter recipe cake mixes. It might work
