1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups yellow sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup sour cream
2 tsp ground anise seed
3/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
6 cup flour
1 tsp cayenne pepper (at least)

Cream sugars and butter. Add spices and stir in sour cream until well mixed. Work in flour a cup at a time until dough is smooth and workable. Roll into long ropes about 1" thick and then cut into 1'' pieces or shape into 1" balls. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350º for approximately 15 minutes. This is a fairly large batter. Pepper nuts should be stored in an airtight container or frozen if stored for any length of time. A favorite at Christmas time.
