"When I'm at a Chinese restaurant having a hard time with chopsticks, I always hope that there's a Chinese kid at an American restaurant somewhere who's struggling mightily with a fork."--Rick Budinich
Cream together 2 c. sugar, 1 1/2 c. shortening(Crisco and margarine), 1/2 c. molasses or sorghum, 2 eggs. Mix and add 4 c. flour, 4 tsp. baking soda, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 2 tsp. ginger, 1 tsp. cloves, 2 tsp. salt.
Roll dough into balls and dip in sugar. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350. (Secret to soft cookies-don't bake too long. Don't let them brown around the edges.)
