1/2 lb. chopped dates
3/4 cup sugr
2 Tbsp. flour
1 cup water
3/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp soda dissolved in 2 Tbsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Cook dates, sugar, flour and water until thickened and set aside. Cream the butter and brown sugar and add the beaten eggs. Add flour, soda, vanilla and salt. Spread half of this mixture in a 10 x 14 greased pan. Spread evenly with 2 cups chopped candy orange slices, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, then the cooked date mixture. Top with the other half of the dough mixture. Bake at 325 degrees for about 30 minutes. Frost with thin powdered sugar icing when baked. Cut in 1 1/4 by 2 1/2 inch bars.
