6 egg whites
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup sugar
6 egg yoks
1 cup flour
1 tsp.baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites with cream of tartar; add sugar gradually. Beat egg yoks and combine with first mixture. Sift flour and baking powder and fold in slowly a small amount at a time. Bake in waxpaper lined 9 by 13 pan in moderate oven. When cool, remove from pan, split into two layers and spread with cream filling. Sift powdered sugar on top of cake. Top individual servings with fresh berries if desired.
FILLING
7/8 cup sugar
1/3 cup cake flour
1/8 tsp. salt
2 eggs or 4 yolks
2 cups scalded milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix dry ingredients and eggs which have been slightly beaten and gradually pour on the scalded milk. Cook 15 minutes in double boiler, stirring constantly until thickened. Stir occasionally to cool. Add vanilla.
