8 T sugar
1 T cornstarch
1/2 c water
3 egg whites
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine 2 T sugar and cornstarch in small saucepan; add water. Cook over med. heat, stirring constantly until mixture is thick and clear. Cool. Beat egg whites. Add salt & vanilla; beat until soft mounds form. Add remaining sugar gradually, beating well after each addition. Add cornstarch mixture; continue beating until meringue stands in stiff peaks. Bake at 350 for 12 to 15 minutes.
