6 medium onion, cut into rings
1/2 t. salt
1 recipe french fry batter (recipe follows)
Shortening or oil

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle salt on onion rings and dip into french fry batter. Add enough shortening to fill a deep pan 1/2- 2/3 full when melted, heat to 365 degrees. Cook onion rings until lightly brown, turning once or twice. Drain on towel

5/8th cup sifted flour
1 egg
1/2 t dry mustard
1/4 cup milk
Sift flour, salt and mustard together. Beat egg well and add milk; stirring; add milk mixture to flour mixture, stirring until blended
