3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. dark molasses
1 egg
2-1/4 c. flour
1-1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg. Beat thoroughly. Sift together all dry ingredients and then combine with 1st mixture. Chill. When ready to bake, make into small balls. Dip the top of each in cold water, then in sugar. Bake at 375 for about 12 minutes, or until done. (Be careful not to over bake, this will spoil the flavor).
