4-1/2 c. thinly sliced, peeled, cored apples (2-3 lbs.)
1 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. grated lemon rind (optional)
1 to 2 T. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Topping:
1/2 c. rolled oats
1/4 c. whole-wheat or all-purpose flour
2 to 4 T. packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 T. margarine

Directions:
Directions:
In medium bowl, combine all ingredients for fruit mixture. Transfer to a lightly greased 8-inch square baking pan or 1-1/2-quart casserole. For topping, combine the dry ingredients in a small bowl; cut in the margarine until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until crisp and bubbly. Serve warm or cold.
