1 cup shortening, melted
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 T vanilla
3/4 cup chopped nuts, optional
1 cup flour
2/3 cup baking cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients and set aside. Mix eggs, melted shortening and sugar and beat. Add dry ingredients and mix. Add vanilla and nuts. Pour into greased and floured 9X13 pan. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Variations: add 2 T instant coffee or small amount of Kahlua or Amaretto. These are so moist, they don't really need frosting.
