1 cup water
3/4 cup shortening

3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg

In saucepan, cook raisins in water until plump, about 15 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. In a mixing bowl cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in raisin liquid.
