1 box yellow cake mix
1 1/3 sticks margarine or butter, melted
large size pumpkin pie mix OR 1 small can solid pumpkin plus additional ingredients listed on can to make a pie
1-2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts
whipped topping or ice cream, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Combine cake mix with melted margarine. Set aside 1 cup of mixture. Spread and pat remaining cake mixture into a greased 9X13 pan. Prepare pumpkin pie mix according to directions on package (or mix pumpkin and extra pie ingredients together). Pour pumpkin mixture over cake mix crust. Sprinkle reserved cake mixture over pumpkin. Sprinkle pecans or walnuts on top. Bake at 350 for 50 to 60 minutes until a knife inserted comes out clean. Serve with whipped topping or ice cream if desired.

These are the pumpkin bars I bring to church for coffee hour. Last fall I made the pumpkin filling with a pumpkin grown in our own community garden.
