1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 very large egg (1/3 cup)
1 1/2 cups applesauce
2 7/8 cups sifted cake flour or 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 1/2 tsp.salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup walnuts,chopped
1 cup seeded raisins, cut-up

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the shortening and sugar. Add the egg and applesauce. Sift together the dry ingredients and add alternately with the water. Stir in walnuts and raisins. Bake in a 9 by 13 pan 45 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees.
