1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Topping:
1/4 c. milk
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2-1 cube butter
1 c. coconut
1 c. chopped pecans/walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Soften oats in boiling water. Meanwhile, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, spices, flour, etc. and mix until smooth. Add softened oats. Pour into greased 13X9 pan and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes

Topping:
Combine ingredients for topping. Spread over baked cake and broil for about 1-2 minutes, until barely browned. WATCH CAREFULLY.

Serve warm or cold, good with whipped cream.
