1 c. milk
3 heaping tbsp. flour
dash of salt

1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix milk, flour, and salt and cook over medium heat until thick, then cool. Mix shortening, butter, and sugar - beat until fluffy. Add flour mixture by tbsp while mixer is going. Add vanilla.

Variations: Add cocoa to taste for chocolate. make with brown sugar and 1/4 tsp maple flavor for spice cakes.
