1 8oz. pkg. Hershey Kisses, 1/2 c. shortening, 3/4 c. peanut butter (creamy), 1/3 c. sugar, 1/3 c. brown sugar (packed), 1 egg, 2 T. milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 1/2 c. flour, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/4 c. sugar (for decoration)

Heat oven to 375. Remove wrappers from kisses. Beat shortening and peanut butter in a large bowl until well blended. Add sugars. Beat until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually beat into peanut butter mixture. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place on a ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 min. or until lightly browned. Immediately press a kiss into the center of each cookie. Cookies will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

My daughter Danielle and I had to use "hugs" and chunky peanut butter one cold winter day because that was all we had on hand. They were great!
