3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Directions:
Directions:
Blend together shortening, brown sugar, egg, and molasses. Add in dry ingredients and stir well. Chill dough for an hour. Roll dough into small balls (approximately 1 heaping teaspoon); dip tops into sugar and place sugared side up, on greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle each cookie with 2 or 3 drops of water. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 375. Yield: 4 dozen.
