2 T. olive oil or vegetable oil
1 c. finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes in puree
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt,
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Heat the oil in a medium-size saucepan. Stir in the chopped onion and sauté it for about 8 min, until translucent. Stir in the garlic and sauté for another 30 sec. Stir the remaining ingredients into the pan, then cover the sauce and bring it back to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Cook the sauce for about 10 min, stirring often. Add salt and pepper to taste. Makes about 4 cups.

A great-tasting tomato sauce you can use with stuffed breads, pizza, and pasta. (If you like a thicker sauce, stir in 1 to 2 T of tomato paste when you add the crushed tomatoes.) Perfect with homemade pasta!
