1- cup buttermilk,
5- eggs,separated,
1- stick margarine,
2- cups all purpose flour,
1- tsp. vanilla,
1- cup coconut,
1- tsp. baking soda,
2- cups sugar,
1/2- cup shortening.

Frosting:
1- 8oz pkg cream cheese
1- stick margarine
1- box powdered sugar
1- tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine soda & buttermilk, & let stand. Beat egg whites until stiff. Cream sugar, margarine, & shortening. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add buttermilk & flour alternately to creamed mixture. Fold in beaten egg whites, pecans & coconut. Bake in 3- layers, using 9 in. greased & floured pan. Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 325 When completely cool, frost.
Frosting: Cream together, cream cheese, margarine, gradually add powder sugar, then vanilla.
Frost cooled cake.
