1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
c. whole wheat flour
3 tsp. baking powder
ttsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
2/3 to c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut in the shortening till coarse crumbs. Make a well; add milk all at once. Stir quickly with fork just till dough follows fork around bowl. Turn onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently 10-12 strokes. Roll or pat dough inch thick. Dip 1" cutter into flour; cut dough straight down no twisting.
Bake 450 for 12 15 minutes. Makes 16

You can also make dropped biscuits by changing the milk to 1 cup and dropping from a spoon. I like this recipe because it adds some whole grain but isn't overpowering.
