1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
2 1/4 c. flour

Frosting:

5 T. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar; add vanilla and eggs. Mix food coloring and cocoa together and add to the sugar mixture. Add flour and buttermilk alternately. Dissolve soda in vinegar and add to batter, mixing well. Bake at 350 for 30 min. in two 9 inch or three 8 inch pans.

Frosting:

Cook flour and milk together until thick. Cool. Cream sugar, butter, and vanilla until very fluffy with mixer. Blend in creamed mixture into the cooled milk mixture.
