Ingredients:  
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
cup shortening or butter
cup poppy seed (soak in milk for 1 hr)
2 cup flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon salt
4 egg whites

Filling:
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoon flour
Mix and cook like custard. Pour custard into egg yolks and beat. Remove from stove and add 1 tablespoon butter, 1 teaspoon almond extract and walnuts.

Heat milk, add poppy seed and cool. Cream butter and sugar. Add poppy seed and 2 teaspoon vanilla. Add dry ingredients and fold in beaten egg whites. Bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes.
