Ingredients:  
1 c chopped dates. Boil 1 1/2 c water. add 1 TSR soda and pour over dates and cool.

1/2 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c flour
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp soda

Topping
1/2 cup sugar
1 package chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar and 2 eggs. Add cooled date mixture. Combine dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Stir well. Put in 9x13 greased pan.. Top with 1/2 cup sugar, then 1 pkg choc. chips, then pecans. Bake at 350
for 35 to 40 min. Serve with cool whip or ice cream.
