1/2 c. butter
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. light brown sugar
salt
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 tsp. soda
7 1/4 oz. pkg pitted dates
1 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
İCream butter, add brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla & egg. Beat until light, add sifted dry ingredients. chill until firm enough to roll.

Filling: Cut dates in small pieces, bring to boil with remaining 1/4 c. sugar, dash salt & 1/3 c. water; simmer 5 min. stirring often; add nuts & cool. Halve dough, roll each on floured wax paper, into 9 x 12" rectangle. Spread with filling, roll up tightly from end. Wrap in paper; chill overnight. Slice 1/8" thick. Bake in 350 oven for about 10 min.
