2 c. all-purpose flour
1 pkg. yeast
3/4 c. lukewarm milk
1 egg
2/3 c. raisins
1 heaping tbsp. mixed candied fruit, chopped
1 tart apple, peeled, cored and minced
grated peel of 1/2 lemon
pinch of salt
Confectioners sugar

Directions:

Soften the yeast in the milk; combine all ingredients. Cover and let rise one hour. Shape into balls with a tablespoon dipped in oil. Drop into deep fat (365) a few at a time. Fry until puffed and golden on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle thickly with, or roll in confectioners sugar. Serve warm.

I didn't have any candied fruit, so I substituted chopped dried fruits. Still yummy.

These are traditional in the Netherlands for New Years.
