Salty Nut Bars Recipe

Crust:
1 1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup margarine

Topping:
6 oz. package of butterscotch chips (about 1 cup),or chocolate chips, if you prefer.
1/2 cup light corn syrup
2 Tbsps. butter
1 Tbsp. water

12 oz can of salted mixed nuts (or can use salted peanuts).

Directions:

Crust:
Mix together with a pastry blender until a crumbly mixture is formed. (Small lumps of butter will remain.)
Press into a lightly greased and floured 9 x 13 cake pan. Bake at 350 F for 12 minutes. (Crust may still appear white.) Let cool.

Topping:
In a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt

6 oz. package of butterscotch chips (about 1 cup)
1/2 cup light corn syrup
2 Tbsps. butter
1 Tbsp. water

Stir constantly until smooth.

Sprinkle a 12 oz. can of salted mixed nuts over the cooled crust. Pour the butterscotch mixture over the nuts. Bake at 350 F for 10 minutes. Cool, then cut into squares.
