2 cups sugar
2 tbsp. butter
2 cups water
1 lb. raisins
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. mace
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Bring sugar, water, butter and raisins to a boil. Cool. Mix dry ingredients together and add to cooled mixture. Bake at 350 .

This recipe came from Grandma Eldredge's old yellow cookbook. Notice it doesn't have much fat and no eggs. Raisins must have been plentiful during the second world war though.
