Rhubarb Coffee Cake with Caramel Sauce Recipe

1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. finely chopped rhubarb (fresh or frozen)
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. cold butter
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. evaporated milk or cream or just milk

Mix first 7 ingredients together and pour into a greased 13 x 9 inch pan.
Combine ingredients for topping and cut in butter-should be crumbly. Sprinkle over cake.
Bake at 350 for 35-40 min.
For sauce, mix in sauce pan over low heat until bubbly.
Serve over cake.
