1 cup sifted flour
3/4 cup sugar
12 egg whites
1.5 tsp cream of tartar
1.5 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
sift flour together with 3/4 cup of sugar twice. In a large mixer bowl beat egg whites and cream of tartar, vanilla, and salt at medium speed of electric mixer until soft peaks form ( tips curl over) Gradually, add 3/4 cup of sugar, 2 Tablespoons at a time. Continue beating until stiff peaks form (tips stand up).
Sift about 1/4 of flour mixture over egg whites, fold in. Repeat folding in 1/4 flour mixture until it is 3/4 of sugar in total. Turn into ungreased 10" tube pan . Bake at 350 preheated oven 35 to 40 mins. Invert cake in pan at once. Cool. Using small spatula loosen cake in pan.
