1 1/2 c. butter, softened
2 c. white sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Frosting:
2 lb. + 2 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 1/4 c. Crisco
2/3 c. milk
1 1/8 tsp. salt
2 tsp. white vanilla
2 tsp. almond extract

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).Preheat oven to 400 . Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

Frosting:
Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Start on low for a few minutes, until all sugar is well mixed together, then on high for 5-10 minutes. Keeps well in refrigerator. Keeps at least a month, or longer

My Foods & Nutrition class found this cookie recipe on the Internet and we, as well as everyone else in our school loves it! The frosting recipe is from my 4-H leader who taught me the basics of cake decorating.
