"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Cinnamon Rolls, by Arla Mae Jensen, is from The Brown Family Cookbook ~ ,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
2 c. milk 1/2 shortening 1 c. mashed potatoes ( boil 2-3 potatoes, mash until fluffy) 1 c. sugar 2 pkg. yeast 1/2 c. warm water 2 eggs - slightly beaten 2 tsp. salt 7 c. flour
Pour hot milk over shortening. Allow to cool to luke warm. Soften yeast in 1/2 warm water. Add sugar, salt, and potatoes and 4 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Add eggs, add rest of flour to make a soft dough. Cover and let rise until double. Roll out, brush with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. Roll in long roll and cut into pieces. I like to use thread to cut them into slices. Place on the pan and let rise until double. Bake @ 350º until golden brown. Icing with powdered sugar icing.
