2 lbs beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes with juice
2 cups beef stock
1/2 cup red wine (optional)
3 tbsp cornstarch (or flour)
1/4 cup water
2 tsp white sugar
Salt & pepper
4 carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 onion, roughly chopped
3 whole cloves garlic
1 bay leaf

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325. Combine flour, salt and pepper. Toss meat in flour mixture to coat. In Dutch oven brown meat over medium-high heat. In large bowl, combine tomatoes, beef stock, cornstarch, 1/4 cup water and sugar. Pour over browned meat. Add carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic and bay leaf. Cover and bake for 3 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.
