1-1/2 c sugar
2 or 4 tbsp cocoa
2 c flour
1-1/2 c milk
3 tsp vanilla
2 eggs yolks
1/2 c lard
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda in 3 tbsp boiling water

2 c sugar
8 tbsp water
1 tbsp vinegar
2 egg whites, beaten stiff

Put 1/2 c sugar, cocoa and 1 c milk in saucepan. Boil 5 minutes and take off the burner. Add vanilla and cool.
Beat lard and rest of sugar to cream. Add egg yolks. Leave whites for the icing. Beat 2 minutes and add the rest of the milk. Beat a little. Add soda dissolved in boiling water. Then add flour and salt. Mix good. Last of all put in chocolate mixture. Bake in slow oven for 25 minutes.

Cook the sugar, water and vinegar until it spins a thread in cold water. Take from fire and pour over the egg whites. Beat until thick enough to spread.
