Ingredients: 1 bar (4 oz.) Baker's German Sweet Chocolate 1/2 cup boiling water 2 cups sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 cups sifted Swan's Down Cake Flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup shortening 1 tsp. baking soda 4 egg yolks, unbeaten 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
COCOUNT PECAN FROSTING
1 cup evaporated milk 1 cup sugar 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten 1/2 cup shortening 1 tsp. vanilla 1 1/3 cups coconut 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions: |
Directions:Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time and beat well after each. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture. Beat until smooth. Fold in whites. Pour into 3 deep 8" or 9" layer pans, with waxed paper lined bottoms. Bake at 350º for 30-40 min. Cool. Frost top only.
Frosting: Combine first 5 ingredients. Cook and stir over med. heat until thickened (about 12 min.) Add coconut and nuts. Bet until thick enough to spread. |
