Directions:
Cream butter and crisco until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar to maintain fluffy consistency. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour, baking powder and salt a little at a time until incorporated. Add flavored oil and stir in chopped nuts.

Using 2 Pamed baking sheets, spread batter into 4 strips down the length of the pan, 2 on each sheet. Batter strip should be about 3 inches wide and 1 inch high.

Bake at 350* for 20 minutes. Slice each strip on the diagonal into 1 inch wide cookies. Lay each on its side on the baking sheet. Bake again for 10 minutes; turn over and bake the opposite side for 10 more minutes. Cool on wire racks.

Store in airtight containers. Can be frozen.

Personal Notes:
These have been in our family for 3 generations. They are a perpetual holiday treat. If you don't like the flavor of anise, be sure to use a strong flavored oil of a flavor you like. We use walnuts, but other nuts can be used (hazelnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts).
