Directions:
Cut all ingredients into pieces so you can grind them together. Mix well. Soak overnight in enough water to cover and add 1/4 c. salt. Mix well again. After letting set over night drain off juice (do not keep juice). To make the syrup, tie cloves, pickling spice, celery seed and mustard seed together in a small mesh bag or cheesecloth and drop into the vinegar and sugar. Heat until the sugar is melted, about 15 to 20 minutes. Gradually pour the tomato mixture into syrup. Cook at medium heat for 20 minutes or until the ingredients come ot a boil. Put in jars while hot and seal right away.
